About Beth Polen

I’m a versatile, reliable freelance editor with over twenty years of experience with a wide variety of published materials and diverse industries. I’m pleased to provide my clients with excellent, friendly service at competitive rates and in a timely manner. Editorial services include copyediting, substantive/line editing, and proofreading of fiction and nonfiction.

After earning a BA in English and Creative Writing at Miami University, I spent six years as an editorial coordinator and technical editor at Carnegie Mellon University, working with the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation to produce several volumes of the historic Flora of North America series, revise the reference work BPH-2 (Botanico-Periodicum-Huntianum), and write and edit descriptions of archival contents and resources.

My freelance experience spans more than two decades and covers multiple genres and formats. My clients have included the nation’s largest on-demand publishing company, the American Red Cross and other nonprofits, graphic design firms, advertising agencies, and academic institutions, as well as established and emerging authors. I’ve edited hundreds of novels in nearly every genre, award-winning children’s books, dissertations and other academic writing, community newspapers and magazines, newsletters, product guides, book proposals, and brochures. In addition, I have extensive experience writing book descriptions, promotional copy, and author bios. I’m also the editor of the newsletter for the Depreciation Lands Museum, a local historical site.
